Which access media does cardgate® support?
All common 13.56 MHz RFID and NFC standards: ISO/IEC 14443 Type A/B, MIFARE® (Classic, Ultralight, DESFire®, Plus), FeliCa™, NFC Forum Tag Type 1–4, EMV Contactless (Visa payWave, Mastercard PayPass, AmEx ExpressPay), Apple Pay, Google Pay as well as SwissPass and established loyalty cards. You decide per installation which media grant access.
Are bank cards stored or charged anywhere?
No. cardgate® reads exclusively the anonymous UID (unique identifier) or the wallet token of the card. There is no payment transaction, and no PAN, card data or identity is stored at the reader. The card is used like a key — not like a payment method.
Does cardgate® work without the internet?
Yes. cardgate® runs fully offline and is independent of existing infrastructure — quick and straightforward to install. Optionally, the controller can connect via Wi-Fi to the management portal to centrally manage opening hours, media whitelists and log data. The internet is never part of the door-opening path.
How secure is the wireless link between reader and controller?
Communication uses the Hybrid-Sphere technology developed by keynexis AG: up to 10 km range, 512-bit encryption and effective replay-attack protection through nonce-based challenge-response. Reader and controller need no cables and no public network.
What I/O interfaces does the controller offer?
Four analog dry-contact outputs and eight digital interfaces for direct control of external components. Supported protocols: SPI, I²C, UART and pulse control. This lets you directly integrate sliding-door motors, electric locks, turnstiles and industrial control systems.
Is there a REST API for integrations?
Yes. From the SaaS tier Pro upwards, REST endpoints with OAuth 2.0 authentication and webhooks for access events are available. At Enterprise level, additionally SSO/SAML and white-label options for resellers and ISVs.
Is cardgate® suitable for outdoor use?
The Pro and Industrial variants are splash-proof (IP65) and approved for outdoor use. Operating temperature range is −30 °C to +75 °C — safe for entrances in industrial, logistics and outdoor environments.
How quick is the installation?
A single reader point is typically installed in 30 to 90 minutes. Reader and controller communicate without wiring, which dramatically speeds up installation — particularly for retrofits where cable pulling is avoided.
Can cardgate® drive existing locking systems?
Yes. Through the dry-contact analog outputs and the eight digital interfaces, sliding-door motors, electric locks, turnstiles and industrial controllers can be directly connected — compatible with most common locking and control systems.
How is cardgate® billed?
Three models: hardware purchase one-time per reader point (CHF 1,490–2,490), SaaS license per reader per month (CHF 0–79) or a bundle of hardware and license over 36 months (CHF 59–129/month). Volume discounts from 10 readers, custom terms from 200 readers.
What warranty applies to the hardware?
Two years for Basic and Pro, five years for Industrial. Repair and replacement service is performed directly by keynexis AG in Switzerland. Extension and SLA options are available from the Enterprise tier.
Is there a trial or pilot phase?
Yes. For mid-size and larger roll-outs we set up a paid pilot installation (typically 1–3 readers) over 30 to 60 days. Credited towards the later order volume.
